How to Convert Word to PowerPoint?

November 17th, 2011 admin No comments

Why would people want to convert Word to PowerPoint? Well, maybe you only have a few minutes to dash off some topic headings and a few jot notes. By quickly writing these notes in a Word document, you have just created a presentation outline. Then, with a just a few clicks this outline will be converted to a PowerPoint presentation.

Before we start to send Word to PowerPoint, we need to bring up the Styles and Formatting task pane from Microsoft Office Word firstly as below steps:

click Format > Styles and Formatting. Now here’s how PowerPoint picks up the formatting from Word:

Text that are formatted with Heading 1 will be converted to Title text in PowerPoint.
Text that are formatted with Heading 2 will be converted to primary bullet.
Text that are formatted with Heading 3 will be converted to sub-bullet (2nd level bullet), Heading 4 will be converted to 3rd level bullet, so on and so forth.
Repeat the steps above to start on with the next slide.

After setting Word Styles and Formatting, you can convert Word to PowerPoint now. There are two ways to send Word outline to PowerPoint presentation.

As I am using Office 2007, so, this tutorial is for Office 2007 users. And Word 2007 doesn’t not allow you to convert Word to PowerPoint by default.

Here are two solutions:

A. after writing is done in Word 2007, save it as a Word document > open PowerPoint 2007 > click on the Office Button at the top left hand corner > click Open and select All Outlines under Files of type > select the Word document saved before and click Open.

send word to powerpoint

B. right click on the ribbon > select Customize Quick Access Toolbar > Choose More Commands and then All Commands > look for “Send to Microsoft Office PowerPoint” > click “Add” and then “OK.” > click the button now added to the QAT.

word to powerpoint

One thing to take note though. Text with unformatted style will not be sent to PowerPoint in this case. In addition, objects such as tables, diagrams, pictures, autoshapes and etc, cannot be sent to PowerPoint from Word document.

And if want to preserve tables and images from Word to PowerPoint, maybe you can follow this way.

Step1, save the Word document to PDF format with a PDF creator;

Step2, convert PDF to PowerPoint with a PDF to PowerPoint converter.

It’s a bit trouble, but efficient to convert Word to PowerPoint with better preservation anyway.

If you meet some cases to convert a PowerPoint presentation to a Word document with thumbnail, you could read this article: how to convert PowrePoint to Word.

PDF Conversion Software Review

November 15th, 2011 admin No comments

PDF (Portable Document Format) documents are a world-wide popular way to exchange and share formal documents. However, it’s not that familiar for some users. They may get problem about how to open and read pdf files, or how to create pdf, or how to convert pdf document, or how to edit pdf. So in this article, we’ll review some PDF conversion softwares, and you can choose a suitable PDF conversion tool as your specific need.

PDF Creator

If you have tried to search these keywords ‘pdf creator’, you’ll see that it’s really a long list in the findings in Google, free, online or paid, so many PDF creators are developed for you to create PDF. Below are some ones I have tried and think they really do a good job to create PDF.

Word2PDF is an online Word to PDF Converter. It’s totally free to use this online service when you need to convert Word to PDF.

Disadvantage: It’s a pity that Word2PDF only supports to convert Word to PDF, no Excel to PDF or PowerPoint to PDF.

Microsoft Add-in is a free add-on developed by Microsoft to help Office users to save Office to PDF, If you are using Microsoft Office 2007 or above, you can download and install Microsoft Office Add-in.

Disadvantage: Only supports Office 2007 and later version, not for Office 2003 or former office version.

Simpo PDF Creator Lite is a comprehensive free PDF creator, it not only supports to convert office files to PDF, but also images to PDF and html to PDF.

Simpo PDF Creator Pro is the pro version of Simpo PDF Creator Lite, it provides more features, for example, you can not only create PDF from office and images, you can even combine mulitple files into one PDF with it.

Disadvantage: it’s not free, costs $29.95.

PrimoPDF is another comprehensive PDF creator, it also provides solution to convert most printable files to PDF format.

NitroPDF is the pro version of PrimoPDF, and it’s more powerful. It’s not only create PDF, but also convert, combine, edit, sign and share industry-standard PDF files.

Sometimes, you may need to download a PDF conversion software to convert PDF to other file formats like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Text, even HTML and Images. Don’t worry, I’m sure that you can find a suitable PDF converter in the following list.

PDF Converter

There are as many PDF converters on the internet as PDF creators, so, it’s not easy to get a good one. After trying one by one, I pick up some of them to fulfill kinds of needs.

ConvertPDFtoWord: It’s an online PDF to Word converter, so, you can just use it to convert PDF to word document, the most common file format to allows you to edit PDF in Word. And it preserves the layout quite well.

Disadvantage: only convert pdf to word.

By the way, its developer is the same one as Word2PDF, of course, the developer also provides solution for PDF to Images, PDF to Text and PDF to HTML.

ZamZar is another online PDF converter, but it has more functions, it not only supports to convert PDF to Word, but also PDF ot other file formats, such as .jpg, .png, .doc, .ppt, .xls, .html, .txt, etc. It also allows uploading up to 100MB PDF file.

Disadvantage: you need to sign up a free account first before using it, and the free account has limits to convert PDF.

Google Docs is developed by Google to allow users to convert PDF online. If you have a free Google Account, you can easily convert PDF to Word and RTF with Google Docs.

Simpo PDF Converter Ultimate is a 6-in-1 PDF converter. With it, you can convert PDF to Word, PDF to ExcelPDF to PowerPoint, PDF to HTML, PDF to Text and PDF to Images.

Disadvantage: not free, costs $59.95

If you want to convert scanned PDF, the normal PDF converters can’t do this and you need an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to make scanned PDF to editable file format.

OCR Converter

Online OCR: It can extract text from image (JPG, BMP, TIFF, GIF) and convert into editable Word, Text, Excel, PDF, Html output formats. Max file size is 4MB.

However, most OCR can’t recognize all characters in PDF well, anyway, you can find more in this article - top 5 free OCR software tools.

In this reivew of PDF conversion software, have you found a good one? If you know other PDF conversion software that works great to create or convert PDF but doesn’t list in the article, please feel free to raise it.

Google Moves Reader Sharing to Plus, Despite Complaints

November 1st, 2011 admin No comments

From PCWorld.com.

With its upgrade of Google Reader on Monday, Google has shut down the native social content-sharing features of the popular RSS feed manager and shifted the functionality in modified form to Google+.

Google Reader users who want to continue sharing RSS feed content with others thus need to set up a membership in Google+, the company’s new social networking site.

If they have been sharing on Reader using a pseudonym, they’ll now have to switch to using their real name, which is required for a Google+ account. Google has said that it will allow pseudonyms on Google+ at some point, but hasn’t said when nor how.

Reader becomes the latest Google application whose functionality has been changed — either mandatorily or optionally — by Google+, which the company is in the process of integrating with many other Google sites and applications.

For example, users of the Picasa photo service can continue using a pseudonym as long as they don’t set up a Google+ account. If they do, they have to integrate it with their Picasa account, and replace their Picasa Web name with their Google+ identity.

Google is also giving Blogger publishers the option of replacing their Blogger user profile with their Google+ profile, but doing so, again, requires that publishers identify on Blogger using their Google+ real name.

Google’s decision to shut down Reader’s content-sharing features, announced last week, has led some users to complain in discussion forums and blog posts, and even set up a petition.

In addition to objecting to the requirement to give up pseudonyms — especially in Iran — in order to continue sharing, users also have complained about the loss of a dedicated place for RSS feed sharing.

In their view, it will be less convenient and less useful to have Reader content sharing reflected within Google+, along with a wide variety of other non-Reader content.

Sharing Reader content will now be based on Google’s +1 button, which is tightly integrated with Google+, and on Google+ Circles, the feature that lets users organize their Google+ contacts into different groups, like family, co-workers and any other category they define.

In addition to the Google+ integration, the upgraded Reader includes a user interface redesign that is meant to be cleaner and simpler.

It’s not clear whether users will be able to carry over to Google+ the social connections they have established using Reader’s now retired “friending,” “following” and “shared link” features, or whether they’ll have to recreate them manually.

Google is making it possible for users who decide to stop using Reader to export their account data.

“We hope you’ll like the new Reader — and Google+ — as much as we do, but we understand that some of you may not. Retiring Reader’s sharing features wasn’t a decision that we made lightly, but in the end, it helps us focus on fewer areas, and build an even better experience across all of Google,” wrote Alan Green, a software engineer, in Monday’s announcement.

People who haven’t used the Reader social sharing features will feel no effect from the Google+ integration.

Below are two improvements:

1. New look, cleaner, faster and nicer.

2. The ability to +1 a feed item (replacing “Like”), with an option to then share it with your circles on Google+ (replacing “Share” and “Share with Note”).

iPhone 4s Rank the First of Popular Tech Products

October 19th, 2011 admin No comments

On Oct 17th, Apple  just annouced it has sold over 4 million of the new iPhone 4Ss during the weekend, only three days after its launch on Oct 14. In other words, about 1.3 million iPhone 4s were sold per day. It’s the biggest ever opening weekend launch.

A report from Business Insider shows that iPhone 4s hits the top on the billboard charts among all the fast-selling tech products.  Below is the list of the most 14 popular tech products.

1. iPhone 4s, Oct. 14 2011; 1.3 million phones per day

The winner. Assuming an average gross sales price of $500, that’s more than $2 billion in revenue over the weekend. Bravo.

2. iPhone 4, June 24, 2010: 560,000 per day

Apple reported selling 1.7 million iPhone 4 during its first three days on the market. The numbers could have been higher but Apple sold out quickly.

I’m just wondering, how Apple can be so sharp to hit the market? As the first and second on the list belong to one company.

3. Sony PlayStation 2, Mar. 4, 2000: about 330,000

The PlayStation 2 rode the success of the original PlayStation to a huge debut in Japan selling 980,000 units over three days.

4.  iPad 1, Apr. 3, 2010: 300,000 in one day

Apple boasted about these one-day sales statistics. At an average price of $600, that’s $180 million in a day. The iPad 2, which launched in March 2011, might have sold as well or better — some analysts put single-day sales at 500,000. But Apple didnot release the official one-day or weekend sales figures, and supplies were constrained at launch.

Another Apple product is among top 5. Amazing!

5. Nintendo 3DS, Feb. 26, 2011: more than 185,000 per day
The 3DS launched strong in Japan, selling more than 370,000 units in its first two days. But interest died quickly, and Nintendo was forced to cut prices to spur sales.

6. Windows 7, Oct. 22, 2009: more than 130,000 retail copies per day
Microsoft never officially reported early sales figures for Windows 7. However, NPD found that it sold 234% faster than Vista, which itself sold 60% SLOWER than Windows XP. Back in 2001, NPD reported that Windows XP sold 300,000 units in its first three days. So doing all the math, we come up with a sales figure of about 130,000 retail copies per day.

That does not count all the PCs that were probably sold around the same time.

7. Windows XP, Oct. 25, 2001: more than 100,000 retail copies per day

According to NPD, Microsoft sold more than 300,000 boxed copies of Windows XP in its first three days of launch. But that doesn’t include all the new PCs that shipped with XP preinstalled, so actual sales were probably quite a bit higher.

8. Sony PSP, Dec. 12, 2004: 100,000 per day

Sony’s initial run of 200,000 in Japan sold out in two days.

9. Xbox Kinect, Nov. 4, 2010: 100,000 per day

Microsoft didn’t release first-day or weekend sales figures for Kinect, but said it had sold a million units in 10 days, and 2.5 million after 25 days, so that averages out to about 100,000 a day.

10. Sony PlayStation 3, Nov. 11, 2006: more than 80,000

The PS3 launched in Japan first and sold more than 80,000 units in 24 hours. By the way, if you’re wondering about Microsoft’s Xbox 360, it doesn’t make the list — sales over its first two days came in at just over 60,000, or 30,000 per day.

11. Nintendo Wii, Nov. 19, 2006: 75,000 per day

A week after the Wii debuted in the U.S., Nintendo announced it had sold more that 600,000. Sales were even faster when it launched in Japan a few weeks later — 370,000 over two days.

12. Nintendo DS, Nov. 21, 2004: 70,000 per day

The DS sold more than 500,000 in its first week,  for an average of about 70,000 per day.

13. Samsung Galaxy S II, May 2011: 55,000 per day

Samsung reported sales of more than 3 million in its first 55 days on the market, which averages out to about 55,000 per day.

14. Amazon Kindle Fire, Nov. 15, 2011: 50,000 per day (pre-sales)

Early leaked screenshots of Amazon’s internal sales database suggest that Amazon was thinking 50,ooo perorder per day when it went on sale back in September. At that rate, Amazon will already have sold more than 2.5 million by the time it becomes available on Nov. 15.

iPhone 4s Goes on Sale, Fans Say tribute to Jobs

October 14th, 2011 admin No comments

News from Reuters, Apple iPhone 4s is being sold in stores  in seven country across the globle on Friday, with fans snapping up the final gadget unveiled during Steve Jobs’ lifetime, many buying the phone as a tribute to the former Apple boss.

It’s reported that Sydney is the first country to sale iPhone 4s, then Japan, German, France, England, American and Canada. So, you can see hundreds of fans queued around city blocks in Sydney and Tokyo to be the first to get their hands on the iPhone 4S, which looks similar to the previous iPhone 4 but has a faster processor, better camera  and a well-received voice activated software – Siri, which makes the new iPhone still get a good comment after the disappointment of no iPhone 5.

Australian Tom Mosca, the first to buy the new phone in Sydney, said the first thing he would do was ask his new white iPhone: “Where’s Steve?” Many Apple fans believe the phone was called iPhone 4S meaning “for Steve”. ( I also believe this saying.)  So, many fans are willing to buy new iPhone, it’s said that the pre-order of iPhone 4s has set a new record, as it beat the old record of 600,000 sales for the iPhone 4. And a report from Reuters shows, only ten per cent of the queued people are new users, other are Apple fans to upgrade their iPhone.

Though Apple said that they wouldn’t make the sales data public, Apple CEO Tim Cook and his executive team hope the first device launched without the firm’s former visionary leader at the helm will safeguard their global market share and the volumn can reache up to 3 million, doubled as last year’s record.

iPhone 4s Features

October 12th, 2011 admin No comments

After a long time expecting for iPhone 5,  and now iPhone 4s comes.

On October 4th, Apple released the newest version of iPhone – iPhone 4s. You may wonder, what does the “S” stand for?

Statements from Techcruch may indicate some clues. “When I ask Apple this (What “S” stands for), they’re vague in their response. They note that some people say it stands for “Special” or “Super”. Others say it’s for “Speed” — much like the iPhone 3GS, the successor to the iPhone 3G. Or maybe it’s “Storage” (this is the first iPhone with 64 GB option — and with iCloud storage). Or “Sprint” (this is the first iPhone to run on that network in the U.S.) Or perhaps it’s for “Speech” or “Siri”. Either of these last two would get my vote. The point is, the “S” can stand for any number of things depending on who is using the device. Here’s all I know for certain: this is the best iPhone yet.” And days ago when I heard the news of Steve Jobs’ passing away, some people also believe that the “S” stands for Steve, I’m one of those people.

Whatever, let’s see what the new iPhone 4s brings to us?

1. The A5

The biggest change is the new processor. It’s Apple’s own A5 chip, a dual-core delivers up to two times more power and up to seven times faster than iPhone4. And you’ll feel the effects. Fast. iPhone 4S is quick and responsive, which makes all the difference when you’re launching apps, browsing the web, gaming, and doing just about everything.

2.  8-Megapixels camera

The iPhone 4S provides a 8-megapixels camera – that’s 60 percent more pixels than the camera on iPhone 4. This just might be the best camera ever on a phone. And with all-new optics, it just might be the only camera you need. Because behind every shot, you’ve not just a got 8-megapixel resolution, but also a custom lens with a larger f/2.4 aperture and auto white balance of  24% better.

Also great is that the iPhone 4S camera can shoot 1080p video for the first time. The iPhone 4 is limited to 720p.

3. Siri

The unique device just for iPhone 4s, even the iPad2, which has the same A5 chip, doesn’t support Siri. And the Siri on the iPhone 4s lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. You can easily ask Siri to do any things just by talking to it as normal way you talk. Siri understands what you say, knows what you mean and what you want, and even talks back. For example, if you ask “Do I need an umbrella?” Siri will answer back with the weather information.

To activate Siri, you simply hold down the home button for a little while (similar to the old voice controls).

4. iOS 5

The iPhone 4S runs iOS 5, the new version of Apple’s mobile operating system. Some of the new features in iOS 5 include iMessage, a free messaging app for Apple users, and a new notification panel that appears when you drag your finger down from the top of the screen, and a custom newsstand for keeping all your subscriptions in one place, and even Twitter is integreted in the iOS 5 to makes it eeasier to tweet from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

There are over 200 new features added in iOS 5, you just take time to find them.

5. iCloud

Of course, there are some other top features like iCloud, with which you can stores your music, photos, documents, and more and wirelessly pushes them to all your devices. Automatic, effortless, and seamless

How to Convert PDF to Word Free

October 9th, 2011 admin No comments

There are many PDF to Word converter on the internet, some are free but most not. In this article, I will introduce two typical free PDF to Word converters and show you the steps to use it to convert PDF to Word free.

1. ZamZar

ZamZar is a popular and free PDF to Word converter. Actually, this online PDF to Word converter can not only convert PDF to Word free, but also support to output many other file formats: Image formats like bmp, gif, jpg, png and tiff, etc.; Doc formats like csv, doc/docx, html, ppt/pptx, xls/xlsx, txt and xml, etc.; Music formats like mp3, wav and wma, etc.; Video formats like 3gp, ipad and iphone, etc. It’s a multifunctional PDF converter.

It’s easy to use, just follow below steps.

Step1. Upload your PDF file.

Step2. Choose output file formats. When you upload the PDF file, there will be some relavant output file formats for choice; and if you upload a video file, the output file formats will be showed different according to the relavance of original uploaded file.

Step3. Enter the email address.

Step4. Convert PDF to Word free.

However, it only converts a file with the maximum size of 100MB, this is enough for most people to convert a PDF document. And it requires an email add to receive the converted document, so, you need to wait for a little while, I’m not sure how long it takes, that depends. If you want to convert PDF to Word free for urgent use, you may find another way.

2. ConvertPDFtoWord

Convertpdftoword is also an online and free PDF to Word converter. It only provides the way to convert PDF to Word free, no other output file formats, but much easier to use, just two steps.

Step1. Upload the PDF file by clicking the “Choose File” button.

Step2. Click “Convert and Download” to start to convert PDF to Word free.

Another one – PDFtoWordConverter.net is same as Convertpdftoword and provides free online service to convert PDF to Word.

In most common cases, people only want to convert PDF to Word free, so the second free PDF to Word converter can fulfill your need most of the time. But when you need other function, you just give ZamZar a shot.

3. Google Docs

Google Docs is an online document processing service, you can view PDF files or convert PDF to Word free with it.

Step1, sign in Google Account ( Sign up for a free Google Account if you don’t have)

Step2,  upload your PDF to Google Docs

Step3, convert PDF to Word free with Google Docs

By the way, these two free PDF to Word converters don’t support batch conversion, so, if you have to convert a large number of PDF files to Word format, you need to find some other efficient ways, maybe a PDF to Word converter that supports batch conversion is a good choice. And I think Simpo PDF to Word converter is preferable, worth trying.

Apple Sells Out of iPhone 4S Pre-Order Stocks

October 8th, 2011 admin No comments

Just 24 hours after opening up pre-orders for the new iPhone 4S, Apple has rolled back expected shipping times for the device from expected delivery on the Oct. 14th shipping estimate of 1-2 weeks.

The iPhone 4S will launch next Friday, October 14th in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

There is a great demand for the iPhone 4s. From the data report of AT&T, we know that this partner of Apple has received more than 200,000 pre-orders for the smartphone in just 12 hours after the online pre-order is available. Apple’s online store struggled to keep up with the traffic as pre-orders went live, with company eventually resorting to offering order temporary reservations as connections to carriers’ systems to verify eligibility and service plans became overwhelmed. Users who received reservations from Apple in the first few hours of availability have until 5:00 PM Pacific Time on Saturday to return and complete their orders before losing their priority standing.

And this hot smartphone will be available till October 28 in more 22 countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland,  Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

Notably absent from this list is Hong Kong and China, and it’s uncertain when either location will get the device officially. What a pity! Maybe it won’t take long, after all, most iPhone and accessories are manufactured nearby anyway, I’m looking forward to the arrival of iPhone 4s in Hong Kong and China.

Have You Joined Google+?

September 27th, 2011 admin No comments

As a vital competitor to Facebook in Social Network Service, Google+ caught people’s eye since it was launched months ago. People who wanted to use this new-released social network were asked to join Google+ with an invitation. Once, this restriction limited the users to Google+, so some experts predicted that Google+ maybe another Google’s losing product like Buzz.

Premature to say.

According to a report Experian Hitwise, visits to Google Plus increased by 1269% last week after Google open the access to it. And the site received 15 million U.S. visits, up from 1.1 million the week before.

According to Paul Allen’s estimates, which have been on track in the past, Google Plus currently has around 43 million users. Even this number is too common to mention comparing with Facebook’s users, which already reach up to 750 million in this July. But it ranked from 54th to 8th in the Social Networking and Forums category from Experian Hitwise.

For Google, this is really a good performance that more and more people join Google Plus’s circles.  And it’s a trend, isn’t it?

At last, may I ask you a question, have you joined Google+? If yes, you can add me into your circles, and this is my Google Plus: https://plus.google.com/?hl=en
