Google+ Tips and Tricks (1): 10 Simple Things You May not Know Possible

July 18th, 2011 admin No comments

As the Google+ was lanuched, it becomes one of the most popular topic and a large number of  people go after in a swarm. I’m one of these people:-). But most of us are not able to make full use of it, luckily, there are some editors who have summed up 10 simple things we may not know possible in Google+.  Below is quoted from Business Insider, it shows us some tips to use Google+.

1. Receive Google+ notifications on your phone, even if you don’t use Android

Google+ has an excellent Android app. (The iPhone app is still awaiting approval from Apple.) If you can’t get the app right now, you can still get SMS notifications on your phone.

Here’s how to set it up:

Click the “gear” icon at the top right of your screen in Google+ and select “Google+ Settings.” > Click the “Google+” tab and click “Add phone number” under delivery preferences > Enter your cell number here. Google will send a verification code to your phone. Enter that code in the box that appears on Google+.

Next, scroll down and check which events you want to receive notifications for. (Mentions, photo tags, etc.)

2. Create a “Drafts” circle for unfinished posts.

Google+ allows you to write really long posts if you want. (Just ask Robert Scoble.) If you’re working on one and don’t have time to finish, create an empty “Drafts” circle and only share the post there. You can go back and edit the post when you have time and share with your other circles once it’s complete.

3. Mute notifications on one of your posts

If you’re getting a lot of activity on a post, it can be annoying to get constant notifications. To mute notifications on a single post, open Notifications, click the notification you want to mute, and click “mute this post.”

4. Mute posts that keep returning to the top of your stream.

Google+ automatically bumps posts to the top of your stream when they get a new comment or +1. Some have called this the “Scoble Effect” since Robert Scoble’s legions of Google+ followers have caused his posts to show up at the top of everyone’s streams.

Google says it’s working to fix this. In the meantime, the best answer is to mute the individual posts. Click the tiny arrow at the top of the post you want to mute and click “Mute this post.”

5. Formatting tips: bold, italic, underline, and more

Google+ uses the same formatting commands as Google Talk does within Gmail:

_ italic text _ ➜ italic text

* bold text * ➜ bold text

- strikethrough text - ➜ strikethrough text

_*italic bold text*_ ➜ italic bold text

6. Tag your Google+ pals in posts.

If you want to tag one of your Google+ friends in a post, just type “@” or “+” and start typing his or her name. It will create a link to that person’s profile, and he or she will receive a notification that they were tagged.

7. Quickly move between posts in your stream.

Use the “J” key to scroll forward and the “K” key to scroll back. It’s a lot easier than using the mouse wheel.

8. Block Google from using your information to display targeted ads.

When you first sign up for Google+, Google asks permission to use your profile’s information to display targeted ads. You have the option to turn this off by making sure the box is unchecked.

9. Conduct a search within Google+ (Chrome only).

What if you remember seeing a post on Google+ but can’t find it again? You can set Google to search only Google+ from your Chrome browser. These steps may be a bit complicated for the average user. Here’s what the guide says to do:

Open URL: chrome://settings/searchEngines

Add new entry with the following values:

Search In Posts:

  • Column 1: Google+ Posts
  • Column 2: post
  • Column 3: {google:baseURL}search?q=site:plus.google.com inurl:posts/* %s

Search For Profiles:

  • Column 1: Google+ Profiles
  • Column 2: profile
  • Column 3: {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&tbs=prfl:e

1o. Import your Facebook contacts to Google+.

Facebook has been systematically blocking browser extensions and apps that import your contacts to Google+.

Luckily, there’s a way around that if you have a Yahoo e-mail account.

Yahoo lets you import your Facebook contacts, which can then be imported to Google+. Next, use Gmail to import your Yahoo contacts. From Gmail settings, select “Accounts and Import.” You can then log in using your Yahoo credentials and pull in your contacts from there. The contacts will automatically show up in Google+. It’s a few extra steps, but it’ll have to do until Facebook and Google learn to play nice with each other.

I’m a newer to use Google+, so, I find  this article for sharing with all Google+ fans. Do these tips helps? If yes, don’t forget to share it with your friends and acquaintances.

Facebook “Like” vs Google “Plus”

July 7th, 2011 admin No comments

After Google Plus (or Google+) released last week on June 28th, it draws people’s great attention. As another new social network service, the intention that Google+ aims to take on Facebook is obvious.

Google’s been trying to crack the social market for years, running into false starts with content-sharing services Wave and Buzz. (The former fizzled and the latter set off a privacy complaints that ended with a lawsuit and an FTC settlement.) Many have been waiting for Google’s big push into social since it rolled out its +1 button in March, especially as Facebook gets cozywith its search rival, Microsoft.

As it is introduced, Google+ is not just a social network, it provides more, sharing and privacy. The features of Google+ indicate this.

In Circles, you can share different things with different people. So sharing the right stuff with the right people shouldn’t be a hassle. Circles makes it easy to put your friends from Saturday night in one circle, your parents in another, and your boss in a circle by himself – just like real life.

With Hangouts, the unplanned meet-up comes to the web for the first time. Let specific buddies (or entire circles) know you’re hanging out and then see who drops by for a face-to-face-to-face chat. Until teleportation arrives, it’s the next best thing.

Taking photos is fun. Sharing photos is fun. Getting photos off your phone is pretty much the opposite of fun. With Instant Upload, your photos and videos upload themselves automatically, to a private album on Google+.  All you have to do is decide who to share them with.

Tell Sparks what you’re into and it will send you stuff it thinks you’ll like, so when you’re free, there’s always something cool to watch, read, or share.

Texting is great, but not when you’re trying to get six different people to decide on a movie. Huddle turns all those different conversations into one simple group chat, so everyone gets on the same page at once. Your thumbs will thank you.

Doesn’t it sound interesting and don’t you want to experience it instantly? Not yet. The Google+ project is in limited Field Trial and you must be invited to join. So, be patient to wait for its opening to everyone. But now you can vote for it, this website, http://likevsplus.com gives you a chance to decide which do you prefer? Facebook “Like” or Google “Plus”? Make your choice.

Apple may released two iPhones in September

June 28th, 2011 admin No comments
Apple might surprise consumers this year by releasing not one but two iPhones, an analyst for Deutsche Bank Equity Research says.
Chris Whitmore predicted that at the same time Apple releases a fifth-generation iPhone, probably in September, the company will also show off a speedier version of the existing iPhone 4 that consumers will be able to buy for $350 without a contract.  The lower-cost phone, he said, would feature a prepaid calling plan in which consumers could pay monthly for a limited number of talk minutes.
Apple’s iPhones are generally among the more expensive smartphones available. But a souped-up iPhone 4, Whitmore believes, could help Apple compete with less-expensive phones from other companies.
Whitmore said that sales of lower-cost, “mid-range” smartphones are expected to grow three times as fast as sales of premium models, such as the current iPhone. By 2014, shipments of mid-range smartphones could surpass those of premium ones, Whitmore said.
“We believe the time is right for Apple to focus on driving penetration into the mid-range smartphone market and drastically expand its addressable market,” he said, noting that Nokia Corp. and Research in Motion Ltd., which sell lower-cost handsets, are both struggling.

“Apple might surprise consumers this year by releasing not one but two iPhones.” An analyst for Deutsche Bank Equity Research says.

Most people had predicted that Apple would release a fifth-generation iPhone on WWDC 2011, but the rumors collapse by itself on June, 6th, when Apple’s 2011 WWDC was hold in San Francisco.

And now an analyst, Chris Whitmore predicts that  Apple will release a fifth-generation iPhone probably in September, the same time to release new iPod.

And some others also predict another time that Apple “May” release the fifth-generation iPhone in the special meetings in August.

And many fans have guessed a lot of features about the fifth-generation iPhone. Below lists several ones.

1. The iPhone 5 will be equipped with a speedy dual core A5 chip processor and be released in two colors – black and white, which is expected by most Apple fans.

2. Many people want the iPhone 5 to have NFC iWallet Technology, which would allow users to pay for everything from cake to clothes by waving the iPhone 5 across a dedicated reader.

3. From plastic to glass to unibody aluminium, this is the transition we want the iPhone 5 to have this time around, much like their latest Macbook series of computers.

4. This is another software update we want to see – an updated stock Photo Gallery, and an update to the ‘Photos’ App is inevetable at some point.

5. The iPhone 5 should have home screen widgets or some form of added customization options available. This feature doesn’t have the highest probability of happening due to Apple’s genuine philosophy for simplicity, but who exactly likes a standard digital format clock as their home screen?

Besides these top features may be added in iPhone 5, what other functions do you want most?

Why We Need A Program to Convert PDF to Word?

April 14th, 2011 admin No comments

PDF (Portable Document Format) looks so great on the screen, reading a PDF file is just like reading a paper book, the difference is that paper books are read at hand while PDF is viewed on the screen. That means PDF looks exactly the same as paper. That’s why many people would like to scan their paper books as PDF format, or write PDF ebooks instead of publishing a paper book. Not only books, bills, invoices, job applications, even confidential file like company contract and government data could be saved into PDF format.

Why PDF is so popular with so many people?

1. Easy reading. You can view a PDF file just like reading a paper book, as the text formatting, background color and layouts in PDF looks perfectly as paper book.

2. Wide compatibility. Just with a free PDF reader, you can read a PDF file in any computer, regardless of different operating system, whether it is created with a PDF creator or by a scanner.

3. Good security. You can protect PDF files by user password from opening and owner password from copying and changing, only the one with password can read and edit it.

4. Long-term storage. PDF/A is an international standard for the long-term archiving of electronic documents. With this standard format, companies and government can store their confidential documents for years and turn to these PDF/A files anytime.

Though PDF format has many good advantages, we cannot edit it without some PDF editors. Adobe Acrobat is the most professional PDF editor, but it is complicated to use. Just have a try of copying content from a PDF, you will find the layouts is lost and all the formatting is messed up. In addition, it is too expensive, costs you hundreds of dollars, which is out of budget for most PDF users.

An affordable program to convert PDF to Word is much an easier solution to edit a PDF. Moreover, most people have been using Microsoft Office for years and have good command of Microsoft Word. So, you will find it much more convenient to edit PDF in Word.

At last, what you need is a good convert PDF to Word program, which can preserve all contents from PDF to Word, not only the text and image content, but also the layouts, hyperlink, tables and graphic objects like Line, Curve and Rectangle. It would be better that the convert PDF to Word program has as many as converting function, not just converting PDF to Word, but also converting PDF to Text. There are so many software of this kind in the market, it’s disturbed and time-wasting to try every tool to convert PDF to Word, so you can go to some websites like PDF to Word Converter Review to find a suitable one.

To advocate a paperless work environment, more and more people share and exchange documents with PDF format, and the case of PDF editing will happen frequently, you’d better get a tool to convert PDF to Word for occasional use.
